Description
'Made in India' by 'Trade Mark of Columbia Graphophone Co Ltd Hayes, Middlesex, England. Although the 'Gramophone Company' and 'Columbia Graphophone Company' merged (to EMI) in 1931 discs were still issued using the original company names. That means this recording is from the 30s or early 40s.. Sowt genre of Oman. The piece starts with a short instrumental part (clarinet, drum and ‘ūd).The two sides represent two parts of the very same piece. Instruments: the ‘ūd lute, clarinet, hand-clapping and the Indian tabla drum. The way this piece is performed shows a strong Indian influence: the use of the Indian tabla and the Indianised clarinet (known from military brass bands around Bombay).
