Description
Although the 'Gramophone Company' and 'Columbia Gramophone Company' merged (to EMI) in 1931 discs were still issued using the original company names. That means this recording is from the 1930s or early 1940s.Sowt genre of Oman. Ustad Salim Rashid Suri (singer, ‘ūd player) CEI 13779 (first side): First the singer states his name. The piece starts and ends with an instrumental part (violin, drum and ‘ūd). A small chorus supports the main singer. The piece continues on the second side. Instruments: the ‘ūd lute, violin (kaman), and mirwās drum. Released on Columbia Records; Matrix number: CEI 13779-1, 'Made in India' by 'Trade Mark of Columbia Gramophone Co Ltd Hayes, Middlesex, England'.
