Abstract
Part 5: Discussion of modern developments in office systems and shopping which cut off human communication, and comparison with everyday interactions of traditional Italian towns; remarks on Frank Gehry in this respect; discussion of new towns and social housing in Sweden and United Kingdom; remarks on the need to accommodate human fallibility in planning and design, and on the difficulty of combining teaching and architectural practice. Discussion of ideas behind the design of Ralph Erskine's [RE] Ark building, Hammersmith, especially with respect to interaction between different groups amongst the occupants; discussion of similar considerations in design of Frescati University, Stockholm.
