Abstract
Part 7. Anthony Fry [AF] flew over Nile into Ethiopia, lushness and aridity. Description of paintings of dancers. Need for theme in his paintings. Bed has been recent theme, details. John Sainsbury [JS] bought picture of dancer from Leicester Gallery, remained a patron of AF. Further details of dancers. Wanted to make nudes work in space. Didn’t use models for dancers except self to a limited extent. Did four panels within approx 8 months to a year, different change in scale. Did a lot of figure paintings after dancers, details. After two year gap, painted nudes directly from life. Details of other paintings done in Edinburgh. Paintings with skull. St Zoe. Quality of light in India. Colour experience. Early dancers relate to a lot of recent paintings. Contrast between St Zoe and recent paintings by AF. Thoughts on his painting Studio Interior, approx 1985. Paintings which he has sold remain in his head. American collector of AF’s work, record of AF’s output in last 14/15 years.
