Abstract
Part 12. Scale of ‘Students with the Antique’ was an important step for Anthony Fry [AF]. Most difficult aspect of leaving Camberwell was losing company of fellow painters. Move to Wilson Road, Camberwell. AF continued to paint at parents’ Essex house during holidays. Painting for Rome Scholarship, ‘Betrayal of Christ in the Garden’. AF met future wife, Barbara Harris [BH], at Camberwell, details of her background and personality. BH’s paintings. AF married aged 23. Courtship. Wedding. Rented cottage in Wales for three months. Two years on Rome Scholarship. Previous, post-War visit to Italy with BH as students, Florence, Elbe. Stayed with sculptor, Rominelli, who had worked for Mussolini.
