  • Abstract

    Part 9: Feelings towards gay men, sexuality and being HIV positive. Feelings of sympathy towards gay community and acknowledgment of help. Concerns about minor health problems. Mixed emotions towards receiving cheque, financially valuable for children's future but represented possible death of both parents. Children twelve and fourteen years old, difficulties in telling children. Strong feelings that early concerns about blood product safety were never discussed with those with haemophilia to enable them to make choices about their treatment. Feelings towards having the money with the possibility of three to five years to live. Children given endowment money at eighteen years old. 1995 Gaynor and Haydn on AZT as CD4 count dropping and becoming unwell. Prophylaxis treatment started. Additional drugs started. 1995 felt 'the five years are up' feelings towards unpredictable life expectancy. Impact on relationship. Different feelings of Gaynor and Haydn towards informing children of diagnosis. Experience of informing other people of diagnosis and reaction. Gaynor's concerns at prospect of informing the children, Haydn's concerns about children finding out. Describes how Stephen told at sixteen years old and reaction. Children aware that Gareth infected. Describes how children dealt with the issue and the impact on their lives. Describes taking antiretroviral treatments and side effects. Unknown and confusing effects of antiretroviral treatment on Gaynor as a woman. Difficulties taking medication and working.
