Abstract
Part 2 of 3. [00:00:00 - 00:15:55]. This recording continues on immediately from the C898-14-01 recording and continues to tape a group of schoolgirls from St Patrick's Roman Catholic Primary School, Huddersfield, 1978. The children perform a continuous stream of skipping, singing and ball game songs. There is little discussion of these performances. The recording begins with the schoolgirls performing a series of skipping songs. These are: 'I'm a Little Bumper Car' [00:00:00 - 00:01:17]; 'Oliver Cromwell' [00:01:18 - 00:02:17]; 'Sally in the Kitchen' (also referred to by the Opies as 'Mother's in the Kitchen') [00:04:02 - 00:04:28]; 'I Like Coffee, I Like Tea' [00:04:30 - 00:04:59]; 'Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear' [00:05:00 - 00:05:27]; 'Cowboy Joe of Mexico' [00:05:29 - 00:06:03]; 'Partners, Partners' [00:06:04 - 00:08:42]; 'All in, Bottle of Gin' [00:08:45 - 00:09:28]; 'Cinderella, Dressed in Yellow' [00:10:26 - 00:10:47]; 'Jelly on a Plate' [00:10:50 - 00:11:18] and 'Banana Splits' [00:11:19 - 00:11:43]. The recording contains two singing games. These are 'On a Mountain Stands a Lady' [00:09:30 - 00:10:24] and 'Came a Duke a-Riding' [00:11:55 - 00:14:58]. Iona also discusses with the children different ball bouncing rhymes that they use when playing games such as 'Two Ball'. The children then sing 'Oliver Twist' [00:14:59 - 00:15:12]; 'Plainsy Mother Brown' [00:15:13 - 00:15:33]; 'Wall's Ice Cream' [00:15:34 - 00:15:42] and 'Shirley Bassey is a Star' [00:15:43 - 00:15:55]. This particular performance ends abruptly as the tape then ends.
