Abstract
IFPI founded in 1933 to deal with ecord industry at inter-governmental level; promoting legislation; copyrights for industry worldwide. Equal rights; piracy and relationship with all international record industries. Founded by Decca and EMI to monitor world-wide legislation, piracy and home copying. Broadcasting in the States and in Britain. Copyright and limitations to broadcasting copyright. Copyright in America. Problems and methods of distribution; audio, cable, satellite and electronic. Control at source for worldwide copyright legislation. Piracy in South East Asia, and IFPI's work in Hong Kong and Singapore. Working with the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) and the home taping campaign. Controlling the use of sound recordings on cable. Prevention of home taping impossible, royalty solution, royalties on videos, licensing home taping and opposition by tape manufacturers. Private copying. Work of IFPI worldwide and its changing image. Reducing the level of VAT on sound recordings, lending libraries and public lending rights; government subsidies, profit on pop recordings. Archival retrieval of recordings, National Sound Archive.
