Description
Item note: This is a flute melody to accompany ekitaaguriro, a men's dance. Performance note: This recording features omukuri flute and the orunyegyo (rattle) and the enyungu (water pots beaten with banana fibre beater) and foot stamps. While the flute is played a short verse and chorus is sung as an interval during this ekitaaguriro dance performance. Very often the order of ekitaaguriro is this: one of ekitaaguriro is sung, afterwards dance and accompanying instruments [percussion only] then omukuri alone, then ekirembeero alone or together with omukuri then amagari [the short verse and chorus] or together with omukuri, then dance and percussion till the end of performance; in item 18 the flute is played before the basic song ends. [this is unusual Peter Cooke thinks]. Recordist's note: In Peter Cooke's notes, this is on TAPE PC 8, TRACK A, item no. 17 and 18.
